Welcome Neighbors!
At a special meeting of the Mark Twain Neighborhood Association on Saturday March 15 at Jerry Cline Tennis Center, a large gathering of members voted unanimously to modify bylaws and boundaries of the Association to include all residents located north of Constitution, south of I-40 and between San Pedro and Louisiana. Now formally recognized by the ONC, we are delighted to have you with us and look forward to meeting you at future Association meetings, community improvement collaborations, and social events.
Our Mark Twain Neighborhood, like many others in Albuquerque, faces major new challenges (up zoning by City Council, NM Expo redevelopment proposals, decline of small businesses along major corridors, unhoused population incursions, crime, etc.). A summary of the implications for Mark Twain of the O-24-69 ordinance passed by City Council Jan. 6th is printed on the back of this flyer. We believe that making our voice heard, as loudly and largely as possible is not only our democratic right but also our responsibility. Adding your voices and opinions makes us stronger and better.
The Association’s next priority project is establishment of a website to provide all residents, on a 24/7 basis, with current information and practical resources. We aim go live within two months.
PLEASE NOTE: The Albuquerque City Neighborhood Association Regulation Ordinance (NARO) requires residents and adjacent businesses to formally affirm membership in the Association each year to have voting rights on issues put before members (officer elections, bylaw amendments, etc.) but no payment of dues is required. Formal membership is not required to attend meetings or receive announcements. We have Association Board positions open which we would love to have filled by members from the “north side”. Please let us know if you are interested.
The Association welcomes donations to support our projects but they are 100% voluntary.
Membership lists and resident information is not shared outside the Association…..…ever.
The 2025 Membership Affirmation Form is below. Completed signed form can be mailed or sent by email with attached scan or cell phone photo to me at Bardean12@comcast.net with cc: to Treasurer Michele Benton mkbenton@swcp.com and Board Member-at-large Jaemes Shanley jaemes1@mac.com .
Again, a warm welcome. We look forward to collaborating with you to realize a better and vibrant Mark Twain neighborhood community.
